sad isn't it?

Today on my lunch in the land of the telephone I used the excellent "next blog" function in the top right hand corner of this screen. Well, not the screen I see now, but the one you surely see when you read this. I came across a frustrated office worker who has recently and exultingly quit the job she hates, an english teacher in some spanish speaking country, and lastly, a self proclaimed "male homosexual musicoligist" trying to find his way. While reading "Greg's London Ramblings" I realized once again that we are all dreadfully and wonderfully alike. Greg was frustrated that no one was commenting on his blog. Now why would that be? To answer this question I need to look at what he is writing, and more importantly, why he is writing it. He rambles as I do about doubts, worries, joys, and whatever else may come to mind. Nothing of great importance to anyone, even the writer at times. It seems we all just want someone to listen. Sad isn't it?

toronto film festival

Well, I have returned to write to you after what feels like a very long absence. In the past eight days life has been a bit busier than usual. Last week my co-worker was moving so I was alone in the call centre much of the time. This didn't leave much time for writing to say the least. Also, I've been feeling a bit concerned about my manager finding this blog. Another co-worker overheard that I had a website and asked me how it was going. If you've been reading anything I've written to date, you know that I don't exactly speak highly of my job. Today, however, I have been playing far too many games and am in need of some keyboard therapy. I am throwing caution to the wind.

This week has also been busy in some good ways. I've caught up on several projects at home that I've been leaving, I finally started my night class, and I spent some quality time with some quality people. Also, last friday I went to the Toronto Film Festival with Ceej. We didn't see too many celebrities as we went to a foreign film and I destroyed my feet in some beautiful shoes. Overall an excellent evening. There's nothing like seeing a movie, no less a world premiere, in the presence of those who made it. A certain conscioussness of every reaction and judgement arises allowing the viewer to appreciate the film completely. I think I'm addicted. We saw L'Enfer, a French/Italian/Belgian/Japanese work directed by Danis Tanovic (No Man's Land).

I loved every bit of this movie and really appreciated the thoughtful, observant, and familiar writing of Kryzstof Kieslowski (Three Colors: Blue, White, and Red). The write up seemed pretty cliché, but Ceej hit the nail on the head when he said that French movies have a way of making it interesting. Tomorrow I'm seeing Die Weisse Massai (The White Massai), a German film directed by Hermine Huntgeburth. I'm not sure how this one will be, but I'll keep you posted.

coldplay

coldplayWell, we didn't get tickets for the Toronto show, but Buffalo was awesome. Not only did we get to see an amazing Coldplay show, we got to spend the whole day at Darien Lake! We had great seats right at the back...okay at least we had seats. We were able to sneak up one section to watch the show from there too. The fans on the lawn weren't neglected either. Chris Martin let them know how lucky they were to be far away as Coldplay has recently been voted one of the ugliest bands in the UK by a European magazine.

The band did some really cool things to make the concert interactive too. During "Yellow" a pile of huge yellow balloons were dropped from the roof so the crowd could bounce them around. Chris even managed to get to a supporting pole in the middle of the audience and climb up while singing! The absolute coolest thing happened though when he asked for a phone from the crowd and serenaded an unsuspecting (and lucky!) person from their address book. The video footage was truly amazing as well. All I have left to do is go online and buy a T-shirt!
